Coins & trade
Aetherfall has real coins you carry around, merchants to spend them with and a Treasury to keep them safe.
There's no /sell: coins come from playing.
Coins
| Gold Mark | 100 copper |
| Silver Mark | 10 copper |
| Copper Mark | 1 copper |
Ten coins merge into the next one up as you pick them up. You earn them from:
- Quests, which pay the most.
- Mining natural ores (deeper and rarer ores pay more, and so does a higher Mining level).
- Fighting monsters (tougher ones drop more; spawner and farm mobs drop nothing).
- Boss bounties, daily bounties, first discoveries and attuning Wayshrines.
- Levelling your Crafts, and now and then a coin pouch from trees, crops and fishing.
Coin Purse
Craft one from leather around a gold nugget with string on top, or find one in chests. While you carry it:
- Coins you pick up go straight into the purse instead of filling your inventory.
- Merchants, the Auction House and the casino take payment from your purse first, then your bank account, and give change into the purse.
- Right-click it (in your hand or in your inventory) to open it: take coins out or drop coins in.
- It holds up to 1,000 gold. When it's full, coins go into your inventory as before.
Careful: coins and Coin Purses are not soulbound. If you die they go into your grave with everything else.
Aether Treasuries
Every village has an Aether Treasury, built the first time someone comes near: a moonmarble hall with a vault heaped
with gold and a crystal spire. Talk to the hooded Vaultkeeper to deposit coins, withdraw them and see your recent activity.
Banked coins are safe from death, every Treasury shares the same account, and you can still spend them anywhere: shops,
the Auction House and the casino use your purse first, then your bank. /balance shows the way to the nearest one.
Merchants
The first time a ruin, temple or Wayshrine is found, a merchant may pitch a striped pavilion beside it.
| Shrinekeeper | At Wayshrines. Travel supplies, and hands out daily bounties. |
| Smith | Metal, tools and gear. |
| Fishmonger | Near water. Fish and fishing supplies. |
| Desert Trader | In the desert. Sand-country goods. |
| Herbalist | Plants, seeds and potions. |
| Tailor | Cosmetic titles and particle trails. |
Merchants take your coins from your purse first, then from your bank account, and buy back only their own kind of goods. Each has a daily limit per item, and the more you sell them, the less they pay.
The Wandering Trader hauls a rattling striped cart. He sells six curios a day, a cosmetic of the week and, for a fee, a rumour of where an Architect is working.
Architects are rare (never two within 1,200 blocks). They sell blueprints that teach a whole building set for good, plus a title: Moonmarble Palace, Sunbleached Stone, Void Cathedral and Hearthwood Cottage. See Building.
NPCs and Outlaws
Merchants, Vaultkeepers and Architects look at you, wave, wander around their post and chat. Monsters, fire and falls can't hurt them, but players can. Killing one costs a fine (taken from your coins, then your Treasury) and makes you an Outlaw for 2 hours of play: a red ☠ by your name, and no NPC will trade with you. Whoever defeats an Outlaw collects half their fine. The NPC returns after a while.
Aetherhaven, the spawn village
New players arrive in Aetherhaven, a little frontier town, and you come back here when you die without a bed. A Wayshrine stands in the middle of the plaza, so you can attune and travel here like any other shrine. Around it:
- The Bank of Aetherhaven (north): the banker keeps your coins like any Aether Treasury.
- The Smithy, the Apothecary and the Tailor (west): storefronts with their merchants inside.
- The Gilded Tankard saloon (east): the bartender sells food and drink, the regulars sit at the bar, and two slot machines play for real Marks.
- The signpost on the plaza: its arrows point to the saloon, the bank and the nearest ruins, with how far they are.
- The Auction House board beside the road south.
Townsfolk stroll the streets by day and go home to their cabins at night. Right-click one to chat: they'll mention a little errand in chat (logs, cobblestone, wheat, bread, coal...). Click [Accept], gather the items, and right-click them again to hand it in for coins and a little XP. Each has a new errand every day, and you can do each one's errand once a day.
The Auction House
The Auction House board stands beside the road south out of Aetherhaven. Right-click it to:
- Browse everything for sale, newest first. Click a listing and confirm to buy it: you pay from your purse first, then your bank, and the item goes straight into your inventory.
- List an item: click an item in your inventory, set your price in gold, silver and copper, and confirm. Listing costs a small fee (2% of the price, at least 5 copper), which isn't refunded. You can have 8 listings up at once.
- Your listings: see what you have up and take a listing down (the item comes back).
When something sells, the seller is paid at once: into their purse if they're online, or into their Treasury account if not, with a message when they next join. Unsold listings expire after 48 hours and the item comes back to the seller.
Daily login rewards
Log in on following days to build a streak. Your reward comes by itself when you join (or at midnight, Norway time, if
you're online): coins that grow every day, plus XP. Miss a day and the streak starts over at day 1; after day 30 the calendar
starts again. /daily shows your calendar.
| Day 7 | A Week of Wonders: 5 gold, Aether Shards and Dust, a golden apple and the title the Faithful. |
| Day 14 | Fortnight of Fortune: 15 gold, more shards and dust, Bottles o' Enchanting and the Starfall trail. |
| Day 30 | The Aether's Favour: 50 gold, 32 Aether Shards, Void Essence, an enchanted golden apple and the title Aether-Devoted. |
Bounties and cosmetics
- Daily bounties: three tasks a day (slay, bring, discover) for coins and XP, at a Bounty Board or a Shrinekeeper.
- Cosmetics: titles shown before your name in chat and particle trails. Buy them from Tailors and the trader, and wear them at a Wardrobe.
The workshop
Build a workshop room in your home around these stations:
| Aether Salvager | Break gear down into Aether Dust. |
| Mending Altar | Repair tools, weapons and armour for Aether Dust. |
| Runeforge | Upgrade Aetherfall gear up to +5. |
| Outfitter's Bench | Harness a backpack onto a chestplate. |
| Bounty Board | Your daily bounties. |
| Wardrobe | Wear your titles and trails. |
The Gilded Gambit
Very rarely, the first time a ruin, temple or mansion is found, a casino stands beside it: a dark cathedral hall with gold cornices, a glass dome and a giant chip spinning over the roof. You'll hear music and laughter when one appears nearby. The games are rigged. The house always wins.
- Aether Slots: pull the lever and line up three on the middle row. Three stars win the jackpot, which grows with every lost bet.
- Dragon's Dice: call Low (2–6), High (8–12) or Lucky Seven. The dice are... mostly honest.
- The Wheel of Fate: bet on a colour with the Croupier and watch the great wheel spin. The rarer the colour, the bigger the payout.
Stakes go from 1 copper to 5 gold. The Croupier also sells an Aether Slots machine and a Gambit Table for your home (they play just for show) and the High Roller title. A Doorman keeps watch outside, and Outlaws aren't served.
